Troubleshooters: Pool Guy

Posted: Updated:

Every day Ron Snellgrove and Jennifer Butler look at their backyard, they see a big hole and piles of dirt.  It's supposed to be their swimming pool.  They say it's why they've called us for help.

"I've been taken advantage of.  My kindness," Butler told the Troubleshooters.  In August, Butler and Snellgrove hired Salas Construction to build their pool and paid him $3,000 down.  Balance due?  $12,500.  Then in September they paid him another $6,000.

Yet all they have is a hole with water in it and all the dirt that's been dug out.  The contract says "we will be responsible to remove the dirt."  Jennifer Butler says they're tired of Mitchell Salas of Salas Construction making promises he hasn't kept.

"I mean, give you another week.  Give you another week.  Give you another week.  Give you 2 weeks."  The Troubleshooters called both numbers we were given for Salas Construction, left a message, and also sent an email.

What makes this situation frustrating for Butler is the money already paid for the amount of work done.  Plus she says she's disabled, and her dad's a contractor.  "It's the frustration.  The disappointment.  The emotional part of it.  It's just everything combined at once."

Around 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, Mtchell Salas called the Troubleshooters and said he screwed up.  The job has lasted a little longer than he expected.
He added that Hurricane Harvey forced a delay.  And now, he has to re-order the pool.  So there's another delay.

Salas says he's a small businessman and doesn't need bad publicity, so weather-permitting, he'll have the pool completely installed by Halloween.  You know we'll let you know when and if that happens.
