PINS beaches reopened to drivers, campers

Posted: Updated:

Driving conditions at Padre Island National Seashore have improved following the recent extreme high tides.

The National Park Service has reopened beaches to driving and camping, but a coastal flood advisory in effect through 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The recent extreme tides have left sharp embankments in places that will make it difficult to avoid the high tides.

In addition, trees washed in from Hurricane Harvey may impede travel at higher tides, particularly in the last 20 miles before the Mansfield Channel.

Visitors are advised to continue monitoring beach condition reports for the latest driving conditions until tides recede.

The park visitor center may be reached between the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for current information at (361) 949-8068.
