Alleged car thief busted at local gas station

Posted: Updated:

A man accused of stealing a car is behind bars after he was busted at a gas station by a CCPD officer.

It happened Saturday just after 11 a.m. at a Valero gas station located in the 7800 block of SPID.

An officer patrolling in the area spotted and recognized a blue Dodge Avenger parked by the air pump that police say had recently been stolen.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle matched the description that the owner provided to police on Friday.

When the suspect car thief took off from the gas station, the officer began following the vehicle and confirmed that it was stolen.

The officer called for backup while following the vehicle, which ended up stopping in the 6800 block of Aswan Drive.

Officers approached the driver and arrested 25-year-old Alpha Dale Crocker.

Crocker was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and police say he also had an active warrant out of Nueces County.
