FBI: Robstown number one in crime

Posted: Updated:
ROBSTOWN -

The FBI says Robstown is the most dangerous city in Texas.

In their 2016 crime statistics report, the feds show there were 193 aggravated assaults in Robstown last year. The FBI reports these statistics every year. They're based on information reported to them by law enforcement agencies.

At first, Robstown city administrator Herman Rodriguez told Action 10 News the FBI report is incorrect. "We're not saying that the whole report is erroneous, we're saying that the aggravated assault number is incorrect."

But, later Thursday, Rodriguez admitted to an error that likely came from Robstown police. "The mistake is not by the FBI, it might have been internal on our end when we reported it. Doing some forensic looking at the numbers, we think maybe misdemeanor assaults were coupled into the aggravated assaults and reported incorrectly", he told Action 10 News.

The ranking is based on cities that had the most reported violent crimes based on population. In a disclaimer, the bureau cautions against ranking cities because that can create misleading perceptions that adversely affect the people who live in each city.
