An anonymous donor is helping hundreds of people in Aransas Pass.
Nick Longo, a graduate of Aransas Pass High School is spending the week hand delivering debit cards to people who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Longo says, an anonymous donor trusted him to pass out 1-thousand debit cards worth 100 dollars each.
The total amount donated was $100,000 for people in Aransas Pass.
Longo says, he plans to distribute the money to those that need it the most. "To be honest with you, this is a judgement call, it is not difficult to know where to stop."
Debit cards were passed out to a family who was still living in tents. Other cards were given to those who had home damage. James Hayward, a coach in town plans to use the money to fix a ramp for his disabled son.
"I feel like this is a blessing from God, God has done a lot of things in my life, without him, I am nothing," said Hayward.
The goal is to pass out as many gift cards to keep people from leaving town. "If we are able to say hey here's 500 bucks or 400 and they recycled that money back into their own community it will help start that engine again," said Longo.
The Chamber of Commerce is hoping this is just the beginning of something more. If you are a family in need or want to donate, you can do so by calling 361-758-2750.
Donations are accepted in the form of a check payable to 501C3 Non-Profit Aransas Pass for Youth, 911 S. Commercial St, Aransas Pass, TX 78336.
