Troubleshooters: Johnston Problems

Posted: Updated:

A local woman calls with a complaint against Johnston Transmission.  She says local attorneys suggested she calls us for help.  Johnston's admits they've been working on her vehicle since January.

"Why do I have to be on Channel 10?" says Sol Gomez, owner of Johnston's. "Well, you're on Channel Ten because of a white SUV that you've been working on since January," said Action 10's Andy Liscano. The vehicle belongs to Jennifer Espinor, who tells us, she's been waiting and waiting and waiting to get it back.

"We went to look at the car.  Went to try and find the car.  See what was taking so long to get fixed," she told us.
Action 10 obtained the receipt, dated February 4th 2017, showing Johnston's was supposed to install a rebuilt transmission for $2206.00, and that it was already paid in full.

But a couple things have happened to the vehicle since it's been at Johnston's.  Espinor showed us pictures showing the transmission fluid leaks underneath.  "The drivers side window that was left open while it rained." Plus, the engine's been blown.  Sol Gomez admitted to the Troubleshooters that it's his responsibility to fix the engine and the window.  But "we don't have no money," he said.

And that's just part of the problem according to Gomez.  Hurricane Harvey has nearly shut his business down.  "You don't have any power in here now?  No sir.  For a month already."  So all that, but Espinor still doesn't have her vehicle.

"I have to borrow cars to go to work, or get rides to go to work."  And she says she's lost all hope of getting her vehicle back in working condition. "They're not going to fix it.  If they were going to fix it they would have fixed it a long time ago."
