Troubleshooters: Contractor Woes

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI -

Martin and Isabel Enriquez showed us a video they made.

It's of work they say hasn't been completed by the contractor they hired in June.  His name is Leonard Sifuentes.

Among the improvements they hired Sifuentes to do was move their kitchen from the second floor to the first floor.

Keep in mind, they've already paid Sifuentes $36,000.00.  And that's why they called us for help.  "Terrible.  Not very...not very good at all.  I mean just very stressful and stuff," Mr. Enriquez told us.

The Troubleshooters contacted Leonard Sifuentes by phone.

He says one of the reasons the job is not done is because the Enriquezes kept changing their minds.  "Extra this.  Extra that.  Extra this.  Extra that.  I want this.  I want that.  Esta bueno.  Let me put it on," he recalled.

He also brought up the issue of pulling permits for the job.  "Did you tell me that permits were or were not required for this job ?  They were."

Sifuentes claims he's registered with the city and can pull permits.  So why did he leave it up to the Enriquezes to pull them for the electrical work ?

He adds that if a city inspector checks the electrical work, it wont pass.  And that's not his problem. "They wanna make me look bad, but it ain't gonna work sir.  I'm sorry, but it's just not gonna work."

Time to ask the expert.  Former Judge Mike Westergren weighs in on what he sees in this case.

"We definitely have a very strong possibility of a deceptive trade practices act lawsuit on the part of this contractor.  They've been greatly disadvantaged and inconvenienced by this, and so you're on notice."

The judge also suggested the Enriquezes and Sifuentes try to resolve this thru the Dispute Resolution service at the courthouse.

Sifuentes told us he contacted the Enriquezes by phone today.  And they hung up on him.  They admitted they did.  And that they told him they were tired of living in these conditions.
