This tale of woe begins here on Jamaica Drive in the bluff. Home surveillance captures a black SUV backing up into a stranger's driveway.
The driver steals a container of gas and puts it in her vehicle. Meanwhile a neighbor is watching the whole thing, and texts the homeowner a picture of what's going on.
That homeowner is Robert Hester, owner of Sinister Automotive and his shop is right down the road.
"I wanted my five gallon can of gas back, that's about it," said Hester.
He bolts home and sees the SUV driving down his street.
"I tried block the street she went around me into the ditch and hit my truck and the chase was on after that," said Hester.
She turned onto Yorktown speeds reaching over 80 to 100 MPH and eventually she lost control of the black SUV and flipped it.
"Assumed she may have panicked and turned the steering wheel in the wrong direction and flipped it," said Hester.
When he got close he couldn't believe what he saw. She was climbing out of the flipped SUV like nothing happened and made a run for it scaling a seven foot chain link metal fence and kept running.
Police said the vehicle was reported stolen, and when they got it upright it was totaled.
The female driver is still on the loose.
