CCPD: Mother, son hit by car; driver ticketed

Posted: Updated:

The weekend took an unexpected turn for a mother and her 11-year-old son after they were both struck by a car.

It happened Sunday afternoon just before 4 p.m. on the 3100 block of Quebec Drive near Rodd Field Rd.

Police say the incident occurred when the mother and her son attempted to cross the street to get to an ice cream truck.

As the two were crossing the street, an 18-year-old male driver in a white Honda Accord struck both the mother and her son, according to police.

When emergency crews arrived, the mother and her son were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The impact of the accident caused damage to the hood of the vehicle and the right rear view mirror.

Police say the teen driver was given a ticket for failing to control the vehicle's speed.
