A portion of a house was destroyed by an early morning house fire on the 5800 block of Lucille Drive.
Around 1:20 Friday morning, a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the home and called 911.
The smoke alarm woke up the resident and when he opened the door to his garage, he was met with heavy smoke and immediately got out of the house.
Corpus Christi Firefighters responded by quickly extinguishing the fire, but CCFD Battalion Chief Jim Devisser says it was not an easy task.
"Because the garage contains all kinds of hazardous materials, lots of thick heavy hot smoke," Chief Devisser said. "It's difficult for the firefighters to make their way through some fumes, but these guys were able to do it very quickly and extinguish it fast."
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
