CCPD: Woman, 94, found shot dead in wheelchair; son arrested

A man is behind bars after cops responded to a shooting and found an elderly woman dead in a wheelchair. 

It happened Sunday night around 11:30 a.m. at a home on the 6500 block of High Arch Court. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they contacted a 75-year-old male suspect and detained him. 

Officers searched the home and found the suspect's 94-year-old mother in a wheelchair dead from a gunshot wound to the back of her head.

According to police, the suspect had taken some pills before officers arrived.

The suspect, Leslie Charles Nelson was taken to a hospital to be treated. 

Once he was released from the hospital, officers arrested and charged him with murder. 

The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as Vivian Nelson. 

Police say the shooting is still under investigation at this time.
