CCPD: Woman killed by suspected intoxicated driver

Corpus Christi police say a woman was killed after a truck hit her early Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 3:00 am at the intersection Ayers Street and McArdle Road.

According to police the driver of the truck, 27-year-old Robert Simmons, struck a female pedestrian that was walking on the roadway and lost control of his vehicle.

The vehicle rolled over and landed in a nearby ditch.

When first responders arrived, they pronounced the woman dead at the scene. 

Shortly after the accident, police announced Simmons was arrested and taken to jail for intoxication manslaughter

Detectives are still investigating the accident.
