Nueces County Commissioners vote to table SB4 resolution

Posted: Updated:

Discussions on the topic of Senate Bill 4 became heated during Wednesday morning's Nueces County Commissioner's Court meeting.

Commissioner's were supposed to debate the adoption of a resolution opposing SB4, but commissioners voted to table the resolution.

SB4 is the so-called "Sanctuary Cities Law" that goes into effect on September 1st.

The bill will allow law enforcement to inquire about a person's immigration status if that person has been detained or arrested.

Opponents were not happy that the resolution was tabled, and say it will lead to racial profiling and it is discriminatory.

The law is currently being challenged in federal court.
