Security upgrades to CCISD high schools underway

Posted: Updated:

CCISD high school students will return to a much safer environment as they walk through the doors on their first day of school.

All high schools in the district are getting some major security upgrades.

The biggest change that comes along with these security upgrades is the main entrance to each school.

Main entrances will now have two sets of doors, and visitors won't be able to get past the second set unless they're buzzed in.

The district says that the glass on the second doors will also be resistant to shattering.

"The whole idea is to slow them down. Security is right around the corner. If something bad was happening out here, by the time they could make it through, the hope is that we'll be there engaging them," said Chief Kirby Warnke of CCISD PD.

A desk that will be at the front entrance will also be protected by a metal sheet that can be rolled down.

Side doors to all high schools will be changed to an exit only during school hours.

The district says that all changes should be ready to go by the first day of school.
