Troubleshooters: Portland Pool

PORTLAND -

Ruby and Sam Cortez's dream was to build a swimming, spa, and fire pit in the backyard of their new home in Portland.  Lots of family fun and memories.

Ruby Cortez showed us a picture of what it was supposed to look like.  In fact, she recalled what the pool contractor told her.  "Told me my pool was going to be so beautiful that it could be in a magazine."

And it was. And that's a big reason why in April 2015 the Corteses hired Gary Zars of Gary's Pools to build the pool, spa, and fire pit for a little more than $35,000.00.

Gary's Pools has been the subject of previous Troubleshooters reports.

But broken concrete by the spa is just one of many reasons the Cortezes say they called us.  "Nothing's been done the way I want," said Mrs. Cortez.  I like the fire pit.  That's probably about it. Ok."

The Cortez's say they're afraid to enjoy their pool because they claim there are electrical issues.

So the Troubleshooters reached Gary Zars by phone at his San Antonio office.

He told us the Cortez's are right to be dissatisfied with the work that's been done so far.

Furthermore, he said he had to hire a new crew in December just to keep the job going, and that he'll do everything he has to, to satisfy the Cortez's.

But the Cortez's have run out of patience waiting for their nightmare to end and their dream to come true.  "One summer went by and we couldn't use it.  A second summer went by and we couldn't use it.  This is the third summer and it's still incomplete.  Something that should have been beautiful and a blessing has just been a nightmare."
