Burglars target local card shop, cause thousands in damage

CORPUS CHRISTI -

Cops are asking for help from the public in tracking down whoever is responsible for a break-in at a local card shop.

It happened last week at the at "The Card Guy's Shop" in Everhart Park.

Cops say the burglars were able to get in through the back door after cutting power to the building.

This allowed the burglars to get in undetected by disabling the alarm system and the security cameras.

"The alarm system showed that the back door was open and that was when it was the worst because I knew I was about to walk into my shop again and have everything be destroyed. I immediately started thinking what did they take? What didn't they take?" said owner Steve Malone.

Malone says the burglars got away with hundreds of trading cards and several other collectible items.

Aside from stealing valuable collectibles, cops say there was also a significant amount of damage done to the business, estimated around $25,000.

Malone says he hopes to bounce back and reopen his shop soon.

If you know anything about this crime or know who may be involved, call police at 361-886-2600 or Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS.
