Food truck Friday: Kono Pizza

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI -

A local food truck is serving up a slice of pizza with a twist.

Kono Pizza of Corpus Christi is a new concept being introduced to the Coastal Bend. The food truck opened up about a month ago.

"The CEO, all of the upper management are from Italy so they know how everything tastes like originally, they are authentic Italian food" said Veronica Medina.

The Medina's say this is a family business where the kids also pitch in to help on the weekends.

The ice-cream looking pizza thing is easy to make. You grab a cone then you add some cheese, some sauce, more cheese and more sauce. "The reason you rim the sauce around is kind of like a pre-heat, the sauce is 180 degrees, it makes it that much quicker to cook in the oven, so the oven doesn't have to work as hard," said Alex Medina.

Kono Pizza also carries a dessert menu which includes cones filled with nutella, strawberries and bananas. Right now, the menu only carries margarita and pepperoni style pizza but they are expected to expand soon. "I definitely feel we need a little jalapeno," said Medina.

Kono Pizza of Corpus Christi will be at the Calaveras 13Mc Alice TwinCam Rally, Friday and Saturday. The rally will be held at Jim Wells County Fair Grounds in Alice.
