Injured sea turtle released back into wild

Posted: Updated:

A sea turtle was the special guest of honor at a going away party today at North Beach.

The turtle know as "Mr.Turtle" was found tangled up in some fishing line last May near the USS Lexington.

The turtle was also found with a hook in his neck and was unable to breathe.

Folks at the Texas State Aquarium's "Second Chances" hospital took in Mr. Turtle and nursed him back to good health.

Dozens of folks gathered at North Beach to watch Mr. Turtle's release.

Alexandra Little, a Senior Wildlife Care Specialist with the Texas State Aquarium tells us, "One of the things we can take away from this is how important it is that we dispose of all our fishing line, fishing tackle, trash, anything like that. Dispose of it properly, get it out of our environment. It will not only help our environment, it will also help all of the wildlife that inhabits that environment."

If you ever come across any injured wildlife, the aquarium wants to remind folks to call Second Chances at 361-881-1210.
