CORPUS CHRISTI -

A woman was arrested after plowing her vehicle into a bus bench.

It happened on Ayers and 17th, Thursday afternoon.

Police say, an off-duty officer first witnessed a woman falling asleep behind the wheel near Six Points and Ayers when he called for back-up.

We're told, as officers were headed to the scene, the driver lost control of her vehicle on Ayers and 17th Street and hit a bus bench, where two people were sitting.

Cynthia Garcia says, she was able to get up and move out of the way but the other individual, a 63-year-old man was rushed to the hospital.

Police say, the man's condition is unknown at this time.

Garcia says, she will never forget what she saw. "I moved to the front and saw the car hit the bench I said oh my gosh, and then all the pieces, I just panicked."

Garcia was not hurt, but she claims her bike got stuck in the car.

The driver, a 34-year-old woman was arrested and charged with intoxication assault.
