11-year-old girl accused of faking abduction surrenders

CORPUS CHRISTI -

Police say an 11-year-old girl accused of faking her abduction is now in custody at the Juvenile Detention Center.

According to Assistant District Attorney Matt Manning, the girl turned herself in Tuesday and had a detention hearing.

Back on June 23rd, police received a 911 call claiming that a man grabbed the girl at Sacky Park near the Trade Center, and drove off with her in a black pickup truck.

Dozens of officers and volunteers went on a city-wide search for the girl who was found safe about three hours later.

A few days later, police announced that they were investigating the case as a false report.

Police asked the District Attorney's Office last Friday for a directive to apprehend the girl.

The case is still under investigation and police have not released any information on what charges will be filed.

Action 10 will continue to follow this story and bring you more updates as we receive them.
