AT&T technicians hailed as heroes for life-saving rescue

BENAVIDES -

A couple of AT&T technicians from Benavides, TX were honored for their heroic efforts that saved the lives of two Duval County workers.

Back in February, Juan Espinoza and Gabriel Speer were responding to a damaged cable location in Benavides.

As soon as they arrived, a woman came up to them and immediately asked them for help.

Two construction workers with Duval County had passed out in a manhole.

Espinoza and Speer quickly sprung into action to rescue Benjamin Franco and Lee Gonzalez.

Both Espinoza and Speer began administering chest compressions on Franco and Gonzalez until medics arrived.

When medics arrived, they transported Franco and Gonzalez to a local hospital and were brought to stable condition.

Monday July 10th, Texas State Representative Ryan Guillen commended both Espinoza and Speer for their heroic efforts that helped save the lives of Franco and Gonzalez.

“These gentlemen sprang into action, going above and beyond the call of duty and likely saved the lives of Benjamin Franco and Lee Gonzalez. They are a shining example to us all to put each other first, to act with integrity and honor, to never think twice when faced with opportunity to help a fellow human being, ” said Guillen.
