Florida motorcyclist injured after hitting 10-foot alligator

Posted: Updated:
FLORIDA -

An unusual and unexpected crash sent a Florida motorcyclist to the hospital Friday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol says a motorcyclist was thrown from his bike after hitting a 10 foot alligator.

According to police, the motorcyclist' injuries are non-life threatening.

Unfortunately for the gator, sources say the 10-foot 9-inch long reptile was barely alive following the accident and taken by private trappers.

Authorities say this is the second time an alligator was hit in the same area of Wimauma, FL on State Road 674.

In the previous crash, a mother of four was fortunate to escape serious injury as well after her SUV struck a 9-foot gator crossing I-75 in Sarasota, FL.
