Crime of the Week: The murder of Alex Barrera

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI -

The body of 38-year-old Alex Barrera was found near the JC Elliot landfill on Greenwood on May 18, 2009. This case remains cold, and no one was brought before a judge charged in connection to his death.

"The case was investigated as a murder of course and we're trying to locate any leads. This is the 8th anniversary of that homicide," said CCPD Crime Stoppers liason Gena Pena.

The night before Barrera's body was found, a home on Prescott was riddled with more than 50 bullets. Three gang members who were believed to be at the Prescott home during the shooting showed up at different hospitals with gunshot wounds. Police believe Barrera's murder was somehow related to the shooting at Prescott.

"They haven't pinpointed the exact motive, they're trying to locate the actual subject that committed that homocide," said Pena.

Police believe the murderer dumped Barrera's bullet riddled body at the landfill. If you have any information about who killed Alex Barrera call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS or submit a tip at 888tips.com. If your tip leads to an arrest you could get up to $2500 bucks in cash and remain anonymous.
