CC Roadrunners prepare to repeat Beach to Bay gold

Posted: Updated:

America's largest relay marathon, Beach to Bay will take place in Corpus Christi this weekend, May 20th, 2017. In it's 42nd annual year, the race continues to attract 6 person teams from all over the world. However, one local team in the Veterans Masters division has vowed to repeat a gold medal performance.

The Corpus Christi Roadrunners are the 52-62 year old division returning champs.

"I'm 62 years old and still doing it. I ran my first marathon in 1982, so it's been 40 years almost. When I suck I'll stop, in the words of Tom Brady," said captain Paul Trotter.

These men are experienced, high quality runners, and this year they wanna break 3 hours for the 26.2 mile trek (that's maintaining about a 7 minute mile pace throughout the entire race.)

"I love the heat, I don't train in the winter, I love the heat and its just quality miles, that's what it's all about for me. A lot of people run a lot of miles, I run quality miles, just short and fast," said Roadrunner, John Ceballos.

The team has competed in various prestigious races, including the Texas Independence Relay (a 200 mile run from Gonzales to Houston, Texas) which they completed in under 25 hours. Obviously, the team is fully prepared to do whatever it takes to win.

"I'm training every day, every other day 5 miles, 10 miles some days, weekends, so I am ready," anchor, Domingo Hernandez assured Action 10.
