A local restaurant is getting worldwide attention for serving up a Texas-sized breakfast taco.
Recio's Smokehouse and Catering at 5526 Old Brownsville Road recently became social media famous after one of their customers posted a picture of them rocking a taco like a baby.
The owner, Minerva Recio says the taco was created back in 1999 by her five boys.
"They wanted the biggest tacos, I said okay, what do you have in mind, they said, we want a tortilla this big lady, make us a tortilla this big, I said, okay, let's go to the kitchen," said Recio.
The taco is made with refried beans, breakfast sausage, chorizo, potatoes, eggs, brisket and cheese. The tortilla is handmade by Minerva.
Although it takes about 15-20 minutes to make, there is dozens of tacos sold daily.
Challenge eaters like Christian Sanchez can't get enough of it. "Once I eat it, I usually don't eat for the rest of the day, and I usually work out 2-3 other times, to help get rid of it," said Sanchez.
If you've got an appetite, you can do the taco challenge. If you eat the taco in under eleven minutes, it's free or else you'll pay $12.98 per taco. However, the time you get to eat the taco could change depending on the weight.
Just be warned, the taco isn't for everyone and probably best to share with a friend, or two.
A Father's Day Taco Challenge is scheduled for June 17th, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Book your entry by calling 361-299-1750. $15 per person. You must finish the taco in 13 minutes or less for a full refund and prize.
