Welding students to build, donate BBQ pit to CCPD

Posted: Updated:

Welding students at the South Texas Career Institute are getting some experience on a special project that will benefit our local law enforcement.

The students are making a large barbecue pit that will be donated to the Corpus Christi Police Officers Association.

The officers do barbecue cookouts regularly for fundraisers around town.

With access to a new pit, it will give officers the ability to make more barbecue and raise more money.

One of the instructors, Chris Kish, explains why this project is important.

"People get caught up in life a lot, they don't realize what other people do for them. It takes a special kind of person to be able to run towards danger when others are running away to protect them so, it's an honor to do something like this, and try to give back to them the best we could."

The pit still needs a little work, but the project should be done in the next few weeks.
