CORPUS CHRISTI -

A man accused of a fatal hit and run accident that left a bicyclist dead is headed to trial.

A Nueces County grand jury indicted Alexis Derise Jr. on charges of criminally negligent homicide.

Police say Derise struck Andy Heines with his vehicle while Heines was riding his bicycle on Paul Jones near SPID in July of 2016.

Heines was the Communications Director for AEP Texas.

According to police, Derise did not stop to render aid to Heines and never called for help.

Heines was taken to the hospital after a jogger found him.

He suffered head trauma and other injuries and had been in a coma and on a ventilator for several days but never regained consciousness.

Derise was charged with causing an accident involving injury or death.

If convicted, Derise faces up to 20 years in prison.
