Campus concealed carry for Texas junior colleges does not go into effect until Fall 2017; however, it has been in effect for public four-year universities since September 2016.
The Del Mar College Foghorn News staff is hosting a panel discussion on the issue for students and the public.
The event will serve as an opportunity for students to ask questions about the new law. Topics covered will be the law itself and the areas on campus Del Mar has designated at gun-free zones.
Editor-in-Chief of the Foghorn, Natalie Murphy, will be moderating the discussion. She says that this will not be a political forum, and only questions about the law itself will be answered.
"We encourage people to come and ask questions about the law," Murphy said. "We will also be live streaming the forum and answering questions from Facebook and Twitter.
The forum panel will include DMC President Mark Escamilla, Collegiate High School Principal Tracie Rodriguez, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Beth Lewis, Interim Chief of Security Lauren White, CCPD Captain Billy Breedlove and Augustin Rivera Jr., who serves as the general counsel for DMC.
The forum will be held today, April 18, at the Wolfe Recital Hall from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
