Judge Nora Longoria apologizes for 2014 DWI arrest

Appeals court Judge Nora Longoria has issued an apology for her DWI arrest 8 months ago in McAllen. She presides over the 13th Court of Appeals, Place 2, that hears cases from the Coastal Bend to the Rio Grande Valley.

Folks went nuts about the dismissal of the case after video of the July 12th traffic stop and interview was released by McAllen Police. It showed an unsteady Judge Longoria undergoing field sobriety tests.

She was originally pulled over for speeding. During the video you can clearly see she was having trouble maintaining a straight line during the sobriety test. At one point she nearly fell over backwards.

The District Attorney in Hidalgo County dismissed the case by saying there wasn't enough evidence. After the video came out he said he had not seen it before. The police department said prosecutors never asked for it.

Friday's apology from Judge Longoria reads, "That night, the one year anniversary of a great personal loss, I did not conduct myself according to my own personal standards and values, or according to the level of conduct the public should expect of all elected officials, especially the judiciary."

The apology was issued after the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct issued a Public Admonition concerning what happened. But that's not going to directly impact Longoria at all.
