The West's top team led by as many as 25 before the Wolves, holding on for dear life in a tightening playoff race, pulled within five in the fourth. The loss dropped the Wolves into the eighth playoff spot after they started the day in a three-way tie for fifth.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Reigning national champion North Carolina sputtered to the worst NCAA Tournament loss of Roy Williams' career, overpowered in its home state by Texas A&M. It's the second straight year the titleholder has been bounced from March Madness before the Sweet 16. T.J. Starks scored 21 points and the No. 7 seed Aggies manhandled the second-seeded Tar Heels.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Freshman Chennedy Carter hit a 3 with 3.2 seconds left, capping a 37-point performance, to help Texas A&M rally from a 17-point second-half deficit and beat DePaul 80-79 in the second round of the women's NCAA Tournament. Carter had 32 of her points after halftime and the fourth-seeded Aggies pulled off another stunning second half comeback for the second consecutive year.
WACO, Texas (AP) - Lauren Cox had 18 points with 16 rebounds, and Baylor is going to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 10th year in a row. The Lady Bears beat Michigan 80-58 in a second-round game in Waco. The Big 12 champion Lady Bears have won 30 games in a row. They next play Oregon State, which beat them in the Elite Eight two years ago.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Arizona State knows what it's like to have a chance to beat a higher seed on its home court for a trip the Sweet 16. They also know how it feels to let it get away. A missed box out on a rebound and a turnover in the final minute let eventual national champion South Carolina off the hook last season. That loss has stuck with the Sun Devils all year. They'll get a chance for redemption Monday night when they face Texas in the second round of the women's NCAA Tournament in Austin.
WACO, Texas (AP) - Quinndary Weatherspoon got a friendly bounce off the rim on a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Mississippi State over Baylor 78-77 in the second round of the NIT. Aric Holman's blocked shot led to a fast break and Weatherspoon sank a 3-pointer to pull to 71-70.
FIRSCO, Texas (AP) - Roland Lamah scored two goals, Maximiliano Urruti added another and FC Dallas beat the 10-man Seattle Sounders 3-0. Dallas (1-0-1) has lost just twice in its last 21 MLS home matches, going 11-2-8.
