Flooding
Inland freshwater flooding from tropical cyclones is a major threat to people well inland from the coast. Very slow moving tropical storms can produce tremendous rains of 20 to 30 inches or more in a very short amount of time, resulting in disastrous flooding.
Tornadoes
Tropical cyclones many times produce tornadoes, adding to the storm's destructive power. Tornadoes are more likely to occur in the right front quadrant of the tropical cyclone in the eyewall region. Tornadoes can also occur in the outer rain bands as far as 150 miles from the center of the storm. The tornadoes are usually weak and short lived, but still pose a serious threat to life and property.
