CORPUS CHRISTI - Police busted a man this week for selling fake wrestling tickets to local fans. He's charged with fraud after one of the victims alerted police to his ticket selling scam, and now more people are coming forward.
Janna Paquette says she had bought the two WWE tickets last Thursday as a surprise for her boyfriend. But like the rest of the victims, it wasn't until Sunday's WWE fight that she realized she'd been scammed.
"They had a picture of the ticket and the name and they said this guy has got many other people you are not the only one," says Paquette.
Last Thursday she saw a posting on Facebook for the two tickets listed at $75 with a face value of $175. So she made contact with 33-year old Marcus Zamarippa and planned to meet up with him to purchase the tickets.
Paquette and her friend came here to the library downtown last Thursday, they walked in with the money and came out with two tickets and a receipt never thinking twice that those two tickets weren't real.
She had all the documentation for what looked like valid tickets, but when she tried to use the ticket Sunday the ticket taker said the ticket was already used
Paquette immediately called Zamarripa but instead found his mom on the other end of the phone.
"She also stated that she is getting several calls about her son scamming people with these tickets,"says Paquette.
Paquette says it's not about the money lost, but a violation of her trust for others she interacts with in the cyberworld. And she says lesson learned, when it comes to buying tickets online.
"I wouldn't advise anybody to buy any kind of ticket from Facebook, Craigslist. you cant trust people," says Paquette.
Paquette has not filed a police report yet, but says she plans to. Meanwhile, police say they are looking into three other cases all involving a WWE ticket scam. If you were scammed, contact police immediately.
