CORPUS CHRISTI - Abel Guerrero, a local contractor, and Mr. and Mrs. Ramon, entered into a contract last May for the removal and replacement of a skylight, the replacement of a storage shed roof, the re-roof of a home and repairs to patio decking. All for a cost of a litte more than $6,000.

The Ramon's insurance company gave them the money to get the work done. So why did they call the Troubleshooters?

Their insurance could be cancelled in less than 3 weeks because the skylight and the shed roof aren't Windstorm certified.

A letter from their insurance company goes on to say 'I think your roofer has let you down.' Their roofer is Abel Guerrero. "The skylight is not approved by the Windstorm Insurance. It has to have a special number," Mrs. Ramon told us. And the shed roof? "It would not have passed because they put shingles and it was too flat."

Mucio B. Garza is the engineer who submitted the official Windstorm certification form to Texas windstorm. He told us by phone that he would have not certified a roof with shingles, referring to the shed. And that Guerrero should have known that only an impact-resistant skylight would pass certification. Plus, Garza can't do the certification anymore because he's retired.

So, not only do the Ramon's have to find a Windstorm certified engineer, looks like they're going to have to spend more money getting the repairs done right. They're even willing to split the extra cost with Guerrero. "Even tho you've already paid this man $6,000, you're willing to go half and half on his mistake?" we asked.

They just don't want their insurance cancelled, and they've already been given 2 extensions by Texas Windstorm. March 15th is the deadline.

As for Guerrero, he doesn't live at this house on Marion anymore. And the person who answered when we called his phone number said he doesn't know Guerrero, but has his old number.

The Ramon's intend to take Guerrero to court if necessary.

Today, a certified contractor is supposed to stop by and give them an estimate for the work that needs to be done quickly.
