Troubleshooters: Rats in Rockport Trailer

ROCKPORT - Tammy Gonzales says she called the Troubleshooters because it's cold in her trailer because the heater doesn't work. For now Gonzales and her husband only have a small space heater.
She also says there is rodent problem. "That wall directly behind you is where we heard scratching and climbing all night long," Gonzales told us.
The plumbing is a concern as well. One of her bathroom sinks doesn't drain, one of the toilets doesn't flush every time. Then there are the claims of electrical problems.
Gonzales and her husband just moved in on New Year's Eve. They paid a $300 deposit. She claims the couple had a verbal agreement with the landlord, Karen Carman, that they would clean the place up and make necessary repairs in exchange for a break on the rent.
But two days ago, Gonzales and her husband were served with an eviction notice for failure to pay rent. She showed us the lease. It's not even filled out and she didn't sign it.
So Gonzales sent a certified mail letter to Carman outlining all the problems with the trailer, "And then I told, I said 'we will be more than happy to move only if you agree to remove the eviction from our record," Gonzales added.
She also wants Carman to refund the $300 security deposit.
Carman lives in a house directly in front of Gonzales' trailer. She didn't answer the door when we knocked, or when Gonzales tried. We both tried calling Carman. No answer.
Three days ago an inspector with the Aransas County Environmental Health Department checked out the trailer, but on the outside only and found a water leak. That's a violation and Carman has 30 days to get it fixed.
In the meantime, Gonzales is looking for a place to stay. Somewhere warm and without a rodent problem.
