CORPUS CHRISTI - A teen's quinceanera is just nine days away, but her family found out two days ago, that they can't have it at the place they already paid to rent.

Meagan Villarreal showed us the dress she plans to wear for her celebration February 4th. Her mother, Sylvia, has been planning for a year now.

She paid $2,500 to have the quinceanera at the Arboretum Ballroom in the 5600 block of Wooldridge. However, she got a call on Tuesday that shot those plans down.

"My name is Jim Harris and I am an attorney. And I've been hired by Ms. Diane Gardner to inform you that your event cannot take place at the Arboretum Ballroom," says the message Sylvia Villarreal received.

Villarreal also recounted the reason Harris gave her for the cancellation, "Mr. Ray Verhey had locked her out."

We confirmed that Ray Verhey owns the property on Wooldridge and leases the building to Diane Gardner.

"At that point I'm thinking screw these people. I've been nice. So I sat there and I cried," said Villarreal.

The contract with the Arboretum clearly states deposits and/or payments are non-refundable.

Villarreal says she wants her full $2,500 back no matter what.

Gardner told us she's willing to refund only Villarreal's $500 deposit.

Villarreal hired an attorney, Rudy Garza, who sent a letter to Gardners attorney, Jim Harris, that says in part: we'll take the refund, but he's put Gardner and her attorney on notice he'll be seeking other damages.

Garza says that's because it was Gardner who breached the contract.

All these last minute changes have shattered the Villarreal's plans.

"I just feel like they don't care. Like my mom's put in so many hours to this and it's all thrown away. There's nothing she can do about it because nobody wants to help," says Meagan Villarreal.

Villarreal has never been told the reason the Arboretum wasn't available, but she tells us she's found a new place for Mmeagan's quinceanera next Saturday.

This case appears to be far from over.
