CORPUS CHRISTI - It seems like the ideal place to live, on the water and on the other side of the Harbor Bridge on Highway 181 - just past North Beach.
The Senkowski's rented one of the homes in the Harbors last March. They admit they only paid part of the $1,350 monthly rent in November. Paid in full in December. But have not paid January's rent at all. So the property manager, Betty Black, says that's why she had them evicted. They had to be out of the place today, Monday.
The Senkowski's maintain they didn't pay their rent because there are problems with their place. They want Black to fix the problems before someone else moves in.
They shot video of an electrician making repairs to their electrical meter. "And he opened it up, pulled the meter out. I took video of it. And he said 'that needs to be fixed.' I says 'what point will this get to where you wouldn't put the power back on? And he says 'right now I'm really questioning it,' Chad Senkowski recalled.
To which Black responded today, "I did send Adrian Electric out there to look at the electrical problem. There was a problem with the box and the owner is in the process of getting someone to fix it," she told us.
Senkowski even went to Legal Aid with his case. He says they told him he should have paid the rent. He says he was ready to move out anyway, but he's concerned about future tenants inheriting his problems. "And I feel that she was just trying to drag it on long enough to get us to pay. The next tenants would move in. They will have the same problems," he said.
The Senkowski's also pointed out a leak from their hot water heater. Water leaks on the carpet. Cracks in the ceiling and walls. Black said, "No. No. No. No. No. That house was built in 1984. There have been leaks before. There's some stains on old wood."
Senkowski just wanted a compromise. "I'm being evicted and all of this other stuff that's going on. And I have proof. And she wouldn't budge. She wouldn't come to a compromise."
The Senkowski's told us they had no idea what their future plans were.
