CORPUS CHRISTI - Today's lesson from the Troubleshooters is to make sure you have any agreement in writing and have both sides sign off on everything discussed.
Mark Saucedo says he had a deal, a verbal agreement, an understanding with his landlord.
Saucedo would move his family into this rental house on the 4500 block of Brookdale and make some repairs.
In return, Saucedo says the landlord, Adrian Gonzales, agreed to give him a break on the rent and provide materials needed to fix all the problems with the house.
"It was the only reason I moved in. It was promised to me that if I help him out, at the same time he'll help me out," Saucedo told us.
We asked, "You have a lease that says that?" "It doesn't say it, but we do have a lease.. but it doesn't say that," Saucedo admitted.
We tried calling Adrian Gonzales multiple times, but haven't been able to speak with him.
Saucedo told us the story of what happened this past Sunday that prompted him to call us.
"The commode had been leaking for a little bit. I called him. He kinda didn't wanna come out because of the (NFL) game," Suacedo said.
He admits Gonzales did eventually come over and tried to make some repairs, then left.
According to Saucedo, whatever he did - did not work.
The toilet still doesn't flush, instead the water spills over the rim and onto the floor.
Not a good situation for a family of six in dire need of a working toilet.
There's also holes in the ceilings and walls, uncovered electrical outlets, bare floors, a bathroom sink that doesn't drain, an unattached shower drain and an unfinished back room.
Saucedo tells us despite his agreement the landlord has not given him the materials to make the repairs.
We went to a home on the 3200 block of Gollihar where Gonzales is listed as the owner .
The man we spoke with at the home says he's renting the home from Gonzales.
Saucedo admits he's paid different amounts of rent each month he's lived at his home in exchange for the work he's done.
This all comes down to the 'understanding' Saucedo claims they had.
It was never put in writing. So, it's just Saucedo's word against Gonzales'.
