CORPUS CHRISTI - Joy Mixon says she's lived in her home on Ohio Street 40 years or so. And her water bill's never come close to what the water department said her old meter was reading. (Reporter)"And you knew, there's no way I'm using 16 thousand gallons. 8 thousand gallons. 7 thousand gallons. (Mixon)Never have and I've lived here like I said since 1976."

And, if she didn't pay $164.17 her water would be turned off this coming Monday.

We started calling Ms. Rose Leal Flores in the Utility Business office yesterday. She told us she knew Ms. Mixon's bills were wrong because she didn't have a history of ever using much more than eleven hundred gallons a month. Leal told us she would call the water Dept again, to try to help Ms Mixon. And sure enough, help arrived !

The Water Dept. replaced her meter and the reading apparatus this morning. Then this afternoon Ms. Flores told her her account's been credited. She doesn't owe the city anything. And her water definitely wont be shut off next Monday like they told her in a letter.

"Oh I'm happy. I'm relieved. My gosh ! Thank y'all. Y'all did in one day what I couldn't do in 6 months."
