CORPUS CHRISTI - The sign on the gate at the Cottman's Transmission shop on Carroll Lane and S.P.I.D reads "Notice of lockout for non-payment of rent." It's from the property owner Ethel Mae Kessler, to a company called Marjatran. The Kessler's told us it went up Monday night.
Today the gate and the office were open. And the phone was ringing non-stop. Customers wanting to know what's happening with their vehicles.
Jesse Flores told us his truck's been here about 3 weeks. "So yesterday, before I was going to work I said 'I'm going to stop by here.' And I came by here and there was a lock on there. And I saw the name on there. They had foreclosed," Flores said.
But Flores got some good news when he stopped by today. Cottman's had a representative from their corporate office in Pennsylvania here today.
He told us he's going to try and work with all the customers who have their vehicles here. He also tells us that the issue isn't with Cottman's. It's with the former franchise owner, Tom Robinson.
Flores says he was told his vehicle will be ready next Tuesday.
The Kessler's tell us Robinson had leased this property from them since March of 1998. And that they gave him several opportunities to resolve this.
We called Robinson at 2:40 this afternoon, but we did not recieve a response.
We called back at 3:15 and his answered. She declined to comment, but did take a message.
