CORPUS CHRISTI - On Wednesday afternoon I spent some time with the boy's basketball team of Glad Tidings Academy. The Lions, as they're called, have a refreshing outlook on the great sport of basketball, though they're aware that just about nobody has ever heard of them.
"I doubt anyone has heard of us, maybe just parents and friends, said Josiah Isom.
The school doesn't even have an indoor court, instead the team practices either outside or at a church in Calallen.
"We sweat more and have to work more just to be able to do it," said Alan Young.
They play for fun first, and to win second. With most programs it's the other way around.
"Of course winning is important but fun is the reason why you play," said Zackary Rabagos.
"Just to have fun go out and have fun, give 100 percent 100 percent of the time," said Young.
8-2 on the year Glad Tidings plays in the TCAL ( Texas Christian Athletic League ), it's their first season in the private school league. And this is their second year of boy's basketball, but after defeating Annapolis Christian for the District Crown they will next play Friday in Ganado in the Region Round.
"Seeing us come out sick and injured and playing hard feels good, our goal is to play for the glory of god," said Isom.
Glad Tidings has roughly 30 students in the high school that includes home school students. Of the 30 about 10 are boys, meaning almost every boy enrolled is a member of the basketball team.
