CORPUS CHRISTI - Catcher Chris Wallace has provided instant offense for the Hooks since joining the club, driving in an impressive 18 runs in his last 11 games of action.

"If there are less than 2 outs I know I gotta do something to drive runs in, whether on the ground or in the air, that's just my mentality I want to drive those runs in," said Wallace.

But what makes his rapid rise in Double A even more impressive is where Wallace has come from, as he suffered a nearly career ending set back while in college at the University of Houston two years ago.

"I was hit in the face with a 95 mile per hour fastball and broke all the bones in my cheek, I have four metal plates and 42 screws in my face now," he said.

It took Wallace months to heal physically, but then came regaining his confidence. He told me that he met with a sports therapist and that talking was what got him on the road to recovery.

"I don't think about it all anymore, my first game back I was nervous but not anymore," said Wallace.

And his new teammates say his story is incredible.

"It shows the kind of character and ability he has and the mental preparation he has and it's a great story for his kids and himself for the rest of his life," said Jacob Goebbert.

Wallace meanwhile says he savors each day he gets to play baseball.

"There is nothing I would rather be doing than playing baseball, and everything happens for a reason and that incident made me stronger and loves the game of baseball more."

Notes: Wallace is batting .269 through 19 games with the Hooks, and has driven in 24 RBI off of 18 hits.
