CORPUS CHRISTI - Members of the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network worked this week to move a dolphin found injured on South Padre Island to the Texas State Aquarium's Sea Lab facility.

The dolphin was first moved to the UTPA Coastal Studies Lab on South Padre Island when volunteers realized it was too weak to swim on its own.

Volunteers say the dolphin was bitten several times by one or more sharks.

Officials recommend calling the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network at 1-800-9MAMMAL if you see a dolphin or whale in distress.

Do not attempt to push the creature back into the water on your own.
