ROCKPORT -- A home on Shell Ridge Road burned down just shortly after midnight last night. No one was home when the fire started. Neighbors say they heard weird noises from outside. Linda Emery was first to witness the flames.
"I heard this popping sound. So, I came out and I saw it blazing," she said.
Emery called 9-1-1, volunteer firefighters showed up shortly after the call.
About two hours passed before the fire was contained. Crews said they had trouble getting enough water pressure.
Emery had also mentioned that the fire hydrant was on the other side of the block.
"I hope we get some fire hydrants over here soon," she said.
The home belongs to Phillip and Valerie Almquist, who live in Austin but rent their home out.
However, the flames destroyed the three bedroom, two bathroom vacation home and everything inside, beds, tables, even bicycles were all burned.
Firefighters say it was likely an electrical fire that ignited in the kitchen.
Surrounding homes in the neighborhood suffered little damage because of the direction of the wind.
"The wind always blows in from the south, it never blows in straight back East," Emery said.
Fortunately, there were no homes directly East of the Almquist's home.
