Pothole Patrol Visits Player Street

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Pothole Patrol spent the morning in southside Corpus Christi, responding to an e-mail about pothole-filled roads. We found potholes on Player near Saratoga and even more frustrated drivers.
We made the drive up Player approaching Saratoga, and our new unit dipped in and out of several potholes.
"They're pretty good size," said driver Charlene Forest, describing the problem. And we found plenty of them, too. "If you get your car stuck in them, you can tear out the alignment in it," complained Forest.
She knows these roads all too well, because she manages some duplexes down the road. "I try to go down the middle so they're underneath my car," Forest said. Our cameras caught other drivers doing the same.
Player street has plenty of duplexes on one side of the street, the other side has a very large apartment complex that makes for plenty of drivers on the pothole-filled street.
The apartment manager tells us she's contacted the city in hopes of patching this pothole problem. The problem is, patched up potholes are coming lose, too. We found loose asphalt ripped from the ground. "As you can see the roads have been patched and patched and repatched, so we've had a lot of work done, but it still needs more," Forest said.
Navigating down player, past potholes makes it hard to reach the posted speed limit of 30. So, most days, Forest says she's developed a plan B, instead. "I go around the back way. They're not as bad on the other street, this one is bad," she said.
She hopes one day the drive down player wont be filled with potholes.
We did reach out to a handful of employees with the city to find out when and if they plan to make repairs to Player. We are waiting for our calls to be returned.
