CORPUS CHRISTI -- Pothole patrol is on a mission to help Christmas cheer this year, those pesky road hazards are causing problems for one very special treat on Rooney Street.

In the weeks before Christmas, there's one special house where many desire to go with their kids and even their spouse.

"Oh, I love Christmas," explained the homeowner, Elmer Fleenor.

"It's a really beautiful display," said neighbor Lamar Graves.

"We just like to give back to the community," Fleenor explained. "It's something they can come out and see, it's free and it kind of brings back the family time of Christmas," he said.

You see, with 18,000 lights this year, Fleenor is hoping to speread Christmas cheer. "Friday and Saturday night, Santa Claus appears and we hand out candy canes," he said.

There's just one problem; the potholes along the way make it hard for people who come to see the display.

"They're getting rather deep and some of the cars, their tires are falling into them and scratching the bottom of the cars and stuff," Fleenor explained.

"They sometimes feel like craters, and they're not very good on your tires, your car, anything," Graves added.

So, before you keep your kids out of bed to let them delight in the musical spread. We sent the Pothole Patrol through this booby trap to ask the city for a gift you don't have to unwrap.

"People come by to see them and I don't think those potholes are very good and I think they're going to get worse," said Graves.

Fleenor and his wife just moved here this year from Tennessee, so this is the first time this display has been in the Coastal Bend.

If you'd like to stop by, Santa's hours are posted here.

We have called the city and hope you can soon see this Christmas delight without a pothole in sight.
