AUSTIN - Formal charges of drunk driving are expected today against the woman driving a car that plunged into Lady Bird Lake in Austin on Sunday.
Officers with the Austin Police Department witnessed the crash and jumped in the water to save the driver and one passenger. The backseat passenger drowned because he was trapped inside, according to police. The vehicle was upside down in the lake.
Both women who survived the crash were taken to the hospital. Police believe the driver was under the influence. She could face a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
So far, police have not released the names of anyone involved in the crash.
