Odem Mother Says School Bus Left Son At Sex Offender's House

ODEM -- An Odem mother whose son was dropped off at the wrong bus stop last week said school officials have told her the house where he was left belongs to a sex offender.
Darlene Menn said school officials called her Friday to tell her a woman came forward with books that belonged to her son, Chase. The woman said she found them outside her house where she lives with her brother, who is a sex offender.
Chase was left at a bus stop more than two miles from his home last Wednesday after school officials said he gave them a note which said he was to be dropped off at his grandmother's house there. But his grandmother does not live in Odem.
"What is it going to take, a tragedy for this school district to start taking care of our children?" Menn said.
Chase, who has autism and is bipolar, is meeting with Child Protective Services investigators, Menn said, and has been examined by doctors to make sure he was not sexually assaulted.
The Odem-Edroy ISD school superintendent, Lisa Gonzales, released a statement which reads in part: "Based on the information provided to me...the student was never in any danger." In continues: "Parents were notified immediately of the additional information and of our immediate report to law enforcement."
