CORPUS CHRISTI - Police had their hands full with a series of suspected drunk drivers overnight. An officer near the downtown area first stopped a driver for a brake light that was out. Jessie DeLaCruz, 66, was arrested for DWI.
Within the hour, an officer on the southside noticed a Chevy stopped on the median of Saratoga Boulevard. Medics were called to check on Ashley Nerios, 30, before she was taken to jail on a DWI charge.
A short time after 1 a.m., another officer stopped a driver seen going over the curb and sidewalk in the 5200 block of Staples Street. David Hinojosa, 27, was arrested on a DWI charge.
Back in downtown Corpus Christi, Joanna Garza, 26, was arrested for DWI, evading arrest and for not having insurance. Police say she kept driving her moped along downtown streets for several blocks after an officer saw her blow through a stop sign.
Finally, Raymond Vela, 29, was taken to the hospital after police say he crashed his Hyundai into a concrete barrier on S.P.I.D. and I-37. No other cars were involved in the crash. Vela was taken to jail on a DWI charge following his release from the hospital.
