ARANSAS PASS - The mother of an Aransas Pass teenager found dead on Stedman Island is relieved there has been progress in her daughter's murder investigation. However, Jennifer Lanier says nothing will completely soothe the pain of losing her 16-year-old daughter, Jenna Hernandez.
Saturday afternoon, Aransas Pass Police arrested Lawrence Mireles in connection to the murder. They say there could be more arrests to come, because they don't think Mireles acted alone. Neither does Jenna Lanier. "My baby was a fighter. She was strong and it would have taken more than one. Anybody that knew Jenna knew that," said Lanier.
Lanier says what hurts the most is she and her daughter used to know Mireles. She says her daughter did have a romantic relationship with the suspect, but they broke up several years ago.
Lanier says Mireles often visited her home when he was dating Hernandez. Now that home is decorated with pink ribbons and pictures in memory of the teen. "She trusted him and that hurts so bad. I can just picture her face right before it happened," Lanier said. For now she is trying to put her trust with the police, hoping they do her daughter justice.
