NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's indoor track and field team is ranked 16th in the 2012 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll.
The Javelinas finished the 2011 season ranked 42nd in the nation according to the USTFCCCA poll. The Javelinas are currently receiving 52.20 points in the poll. They return a pair of NCAA Division II Indoor All-Americans in junior Jonathan Woodson (Missouri City/Marshall HS) and sophomore C.J. Griggs (Cedar Lane/Van Vleck HS), a former NJCAA national weight throw champion in junior Avery Griffen (West Columbia/Van Vleck HS) and three other NCAA Division II Outdoor Track or Cross Country All-Americans in sophomore Tim Price (Corpus Christi/Carroll HS), junior Anthony Washington (Cypress/Cy-Springs HS) and senior Kiya Dandena (Houston/Bellaire HS).
The Javelinas are the highest ranked Lone Star Conference school. LSC rival Abilene Christian at 24th is the only other conference school in the top 25.
The Javelinas open up the indoor season this weekend when they travel to Texas Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
